Week 1: Day 1

Drawing

The basic ability to draw, and not like your 5 year old, is what makes a great artist. It takes practice, and the ability to learn. So I say we start there! This week lets explore drawing from simple objects to shading for a realistic effect then next week continue on.

Courses

I found a few online that seemed interesting but most charge and we do not like to spend money with this art school!  But, if you are interested here a few other options to explore if you feel you would be interested in them.

DrawSpace - Has many different courses for different prices and you even earn certificates for completing them. They do offer some free lessons if you are interested a specific topic as well.

The Online Drawing Course - Looks like a great course if you are ready to fully sit down and work hard for the money you spent for a drawing course.

But like the title of the blog says this all about free! So lets begin with our free drawing courses and see where our pencil takes us!

We begin with this wonderful site that not only has drawing courses for free but also other art courses all for free! Explore around it, learn something new! The link below will take you to the drawing portion I am starting with, but you can always explore further.

Art Graphica - Learn to Draw

The first lesson you see after holding your pencil properly is learn to doodle. As a person who tends to let their mind wonder but gets bored I tend to doodle more than I should so I will skip this lesson for myself.

I went through all their lessons and felt like it was lacking, so for day Two I say we find a more informative free site, don't you agree?

Art school for free?! What!

Before we dive into what this blog is exactly let me give you some of my background.

First the boring that no one really cares about, I'm a stay at home mom to a 5 year old and 7 year old, and I was a Marine wife for 10 years until he left to pursue a better job. My mom was big into teaching me art as a child, and I do the same with my kids. They have been painting since they were eight months old! I started a degree for Photography and Fine Arts a few years ago, and while I enjoyed the artistic classes I was worried about the job field. I ended up doing a complete one eighty and finished a degree in Business which is a wonderful degree to have as an artist! I have the ability to market myself, sell myself, advertise, etc without having to pay some one to do those things for me!

I have been selling my art for the past three years off and on, mainly mixed media and my fiber arts, but always feel the need to expand my creative abilities. I tend to get bored easily, and I will switch between crafts, types of art, etc to keep my interest.

So wont you join me on this journey to find our creative learning the free way?! After all being artist doesn't mean having a fancy diploma on the wall with Fine Arts on it, it means having ability to create with your own hands something wonderful.

How are you going to do this?
I am going to use the internet for resources for classes, books, anything I can find to properly teach things you would learn in art school.

Will you have a curriculum?
Yes! I will take curriculum from colleges known for their art programs and create my own!

Can anyone use this or go along with you?
The more the merrier! We can discuss each topic, how the resource was for you and even share examples of what we learned!

How often are you going to post lessons?
Monday thru Friday! Some lessons may take longer so they will be broken up into days, but I will post something every day for us to do!
